Biphotonic applications are a combination of biology and photonics, with photonic devices used to interrogate biological samples to determine factors such as health, interactions, biological processes, etc. Examples include Confocal and 2-photon Laser Scanning Microscopes that deliver high resolution and high contrast fluorescence images with some depth information, and Flow Cytometers that can detect the fluorescence tags in cells as well as the size of the cells, to use as cell counters, cell sorters, etc.
